Whoo can make an owl?

My latest project is owls.  They are everywhere and so cute!  I decided to undertake designing an owl ornament and it was quite a process.  The first owl I made is simple and adorable.

I was very pleased with how it turned out, but wanted to try and design a realistic looking owl as well.  That turned out to be a difficult endeavor.  I began by looking at owl images online and knew right away that the eyes would be the hard part.  How do you design an owl that looks realistic, but not angry?  I sketched a few designs, trying to figure it out.

I then constructed an owl, but wasn't completely satisfied with the result.  It was fine, but not wonderful.

I wanted my owl to be perfect.  So, I tried again.
This one I was pleased with, but it still wasn't quite right.  The next morning I tried once more to make a realistic, but happy owl.  I decided to change the thread color and the eye shape.  Instead of a half-circle I cut out a full circle and added some cream stitches.  I also lengthened the beak.

I was on the right track!  I added some green sequins and wa-lah!  I had a cute little owl that I think is just perfect :)

I'm glad I kept at it and was successful!  Creating an item can be a daunting task, but very rewarding in the end.  Definately worth the time and effort!
